The everyday things are hard for your child — let's find out why.
Handwriting that hurts. Buttons and shoelaces at age eight. Meltdowns over tags, noise or haircuts. A child who never sits still, or one who tires before the day starts. An Occupational Therapist assesses what's actually going on, then you get a plain-English report, a one-on-one feedback call, and a clear plan — whether or not those steps include us.
For NDIS families, this assessment can also serve as your child's Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) — the report that describes what your child can and can't manage day to day, in the terms planners are looking for.
- In your home or their school
- Often within days, not months
- Report ready for GP, school & NDIS
- Doubles as an NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment
"Lazy," "clumsy" and "difficult" are almost never the real story.
Children who struggle with the physical and sensory side of daily life are often working far harder than anyone realises. An OT assessment shows you what's underneath the behaviour — and the fastest, kindest way to help.
You get real answers
Standardised measures and structured observation show exactly where your child's motor, sensory and self-care skills sit — and which of them is actually causing the trouble.
You get evidence that opens doors
A detailed written report supports GP care plans, classroom adjustments and NDIS conversations. It has real value even if you never book therapy.
You get a plan you understand
We sit down together and explain it in plain English, with practical changes for home and school you can start straight away — whatever you decide to do next.
The skills that make an ordinary day possible.
You don't need to know which of these is the problem — that's our job. Most families arrive describing one or two, and we look across all of them.
Fine motor & handwriting
Pencil grip, letter formation, hand strength and endurance, scissors, buttons, zips and shoelaces — the skills a school day quietly demands all day long.
Sensory processing
Distress over noise, tags, textures, food or haircuts. Constant movement-seeking. Or a child who seems not to notice much at all.
Daily living & self-care
Dressing, toileting, sleep routines and mealtimes — the independence milestones that make mornings either workable or awful.
Coordination & gross motor
Balance, ball skills, riding a bike, keeping up in the playground, bumping into things, and the confidence that goes with all of it.
Attention & regulation
Settling to a task, coping with change, managing big feelings, and recovering after they boil over.
Play & school readiness
Joining in, taking turns, managing a classroom's physical demands, and the pre-writing and desk skills school assumes are already there.

Our promise
We'll tell you the truth. If your child doesn't need therapy, we'll say so. If they'd benefit, we'll show you exactly why — and you decide, with no pressure. The plan is yours to keep, whether or not the next step includes us.

We come to where the difficulty actually happens.
Handwriting problems show up at a school desk. Dressing and mealtime battles happen at home. Seeing your child in the real setting tells us far more than a clinic room ever could.
Book & complete the questionnaire
After your free Discovery Call, we lock in a time and send a short questionnaire — plus, if it's useful, a few questions for your child's teacher.
The assessment session
We come to your home or your child's school and work through structured tasks and play. You're welcome to be there the whole time.
Report & feedback call
We prepare your written report, then talk you through it and agree on next steps together.
Some parts of an OT assessment need hands-on observation, so this one is in person by default across metropolitan Adelaide. Where a follow-up or review can sensibly be done online, we'll offer it.
OT assessment questions, answered
Do we have to do therapy with you afterwards?
Not at all. The report and plan are yours to keep and use however you like — including with another provider or your child's school. Many families use the assessment purely to get clarity and evidence.
My child already sees a Speech Pathologist. Do they need OT too?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — and we'll give you a straight answer rather than an upsell. Speech and OT do overlap for some children (mealtimes and attention are common examples). If your child is already with Light Unfolding for speech, the two clinicians talk to each other, so you're not the one carrying messages between them.
Can the report be used for NDIS?
Yes — our reports are written to support NDIS planning and evidence requirements, including as a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) describing what your child can and can't manage day to day, as well as GP care plans and school conversations. See our NDIS page for how we work with plans.
How much does the OT assessment cost?
We'll give you the exact fee and walk through your funding options (including NDIS) on your free Discovery Call, so there are no surprises.
How soon can we be seen?
We can usually offer a time within days rather than the months-long waits families often face elsewhere.
Whenever you're ready, we'd love to meet your child.
